The Dealer’s Perspective:
Ultimately, if the dealer sees the market price as too low to sustain in a reasonable manner, the product will simply be dropped from his offering altogether and the product becomes difficult to find.
Low price, initially a positive for the consumer, can become so low that the consumer ends up not getting what he bargained for.
The Manufacturer's Perspective:
From a manufacturer's perspective, when dealers refuse to sell or offer a product due to the absence of a sound business reason for doing so, the manufacturer has reason to become concerned.
When its products are offered, but in a fashion out of step with the manufacturer's standards for sales and service, the manufacturer has a reason to become concerned. When top quality products are perceived by consumers as comparable to inferior products or unsatisfactory because of the inadequate manner a retailer sold or serviced or delivered the product to the consumer, the manufacturer has a reason to become concerned.
An even worse situation occurs when the retailer advertises the product for sale and then attempts to bait-and-switches the consumer to another product, proclaiming quality just as good (and, of course, more profit for the dealer).
Manufacturer's who sell high quality products and especially those requiring skill and expertise in the sales and servicing of those products often establish Minimum Advertised Prices (M.A.P.) as a means of encouraging a fair and reasonable selling price so that consumers can ultimately receive the availability, expertise and service deemed to be in keeping with the manufacturer's standard of quality for that product.
Saxophones are certainly complicated products, starting life as in excess of some 600+ individual parts. They must be correctly assembled and adjusted in order for the inherent quality of a particular model to be evident to the player. Given the choice of so many truly excellent models today, the seller should be VERY knowledgeable in order correctly recommend a particular model for a player's needs. So, saxophones are natural products to considered for a M.A.P. policy by top quality manufacturers.
While manufacturers can, by law, set M.A.P. prices, its dealers are under no obligation to abide by these prices in its advertising or when the product is sold. In order to lever dealers to publish only the M.A.P. price or higher in advertising, manufacturers can wield a big stick, by withholding valuable bonuses or discounts to dealers who do not comply and by denying access to products in the case of violations of its policy. These policies have several common requirements and limitations:
a) The Minimum Advertised Price is determined by the manufacturer or US distributor.
b) Serious consequences result to the dealer for non-compliance.
c) Dealers can not suggest that prices lower than M.A.P. are available in an actual sales transaction where M.A.P. prices are shown.
d) Dealers are, by law, able to establish any actual retail selling price they choose, as long as prices lower than M.A.P. are not advertised in any media including the internet.
e) As long as price discussions between buyers and the dealer are private, M.A.P. policies do not apply.
Manufacturers can also impose a resale selling price policy, limiting the minimum price at which products are sold. This is different from a M.A.P. policy and a more effective and more extreme step. It is much more difficult to enforce. Consequently, no manufacturer or distributor of saxophones has such a policy in effect at this time.
The Arrival of the Internet.
In today's retail technology environment, many retailers choose to compete solely on price. From a consumer perspective, lower is better -- all other things being equal. The arrival of the internet as a comparative shopping tool makes price shopping between retailers very efficient for consumers.
The Consumer’s Perspective.
This price competition is wonderful for consumers searching for commodity items and packaged goods for which the only significant differentiation factor between sellers is the price.
However, for complicated products, custom audio and visual projects, requiring extensive product knowledge and training to sell and service, low price points presents the retailer with a challenge.
Training and servicing of complex products require investments and costs not associated with the sale of commodity products. As retailers fight each other, the retail price is lowered in order to compete and profits are reduced.
As the retailer searches for ways to restore profitability, sales competence and expert servicing of product(s) are the first things to get cut out of the offering in an effort to retain a reasonable return on investment on a low price sale.
Equipment: Paid in advance is final
Note: InterFusionMEDIA recommends audio and video equipment be ordered at least 3 weeks prior to desired installation date and all other systems (ex. automation, furniture, acoustics, etc.) be ordered 6 – 8 weeks in advance.
Labor: Final balance of payment due immediately upon completion of each project stage.
All merchandise sales are final unless InterFusionMEDIA receives authorization from the distributor to return said merchandise.
Any merchandise to be returned must be in original unopened containers without any signs of potential damage. All qualified merchandise returns are subject to a 35% return fee and must be requested within 7 days of item receipt.
Price match policies, terms and conditions:
InterFusion MEDIA is an authorized Canadian dealer for all our products through our authorized wholesale vendors and manufacturers from Canada, USA and China.
As an independent audio visual store InterFusion MEDIA does not offer price matching from other audio visual vendors, box stores, online venders or independent audio visual stores and therefore, all sale(s) and or quote(s) are final, after client sign-off has occurred.
InterFusion MEDIA Installation Terms and Conditions
Prices contained in our proposals are valid upon supplier availability of the specified products at the time of your approval. The scope of the project includes only what is written in this proposal. All change orders must be approved by both parties in writing.
InterFusionMEDIA’s installation work is guaranteed to be free of defects in materials or workmanship for a period of 10 years from the installation date. Repairs required due to failure of installation materials or workmanship shall be free of charge for the above warranty period.
All InterFusionMEDIA provided equipment is covered by the full manufacturer’s warranty, unless otherwise noted.
Please keep your InterFusionMEDIA invoice as proof of purchase for manufacturer warranty validation.
All other services, including but not limited to equipment repair assistance (de-installation, shipping, and re-installation), equipment upgrades, programming modifications, repair or replacement of damaged items, and re-calibrations shall be billable at the then current rate for that service.
InterFusionMEDIA does not manufacture or control the availability of the products specified. Audio Video Manufacturer’s regularly update their product offerings. In an effort to provide you with the best possible merchandise and service, InterFusionMEDIA may substitute the most up to date models available at the time of installation. Any other changes to this proposal will be submitted in writing for approval.
InterFusionMEDIA does not warrant damage to or malfunction of equipment or installation infrastructure occurring due to third parties (including but not limited to homeowners, contractors, other trades, etc.) or acts of nature (including but not limited to lightning, tornadoes, flooding, etc.).
SERVICES NOT INCLUDED: Unless outlined in our quotes:
- - HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY SERVICE DESIGN, ADDITION, RELOCATION, OR MODIFICATION
- - SECURITY SYSTEM DESIGN, INSTALLATION, OR MODIFICATION
- - STRUCTURAL OR ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING OR CONSTRUCTION
- - UTILITY SERVICE TO LOCATION INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO ELECTRICAL, WATER AND WASTEWATER.
- - ANY SERVICES REQUIRING SPECIAL PROVINCE OR LOCAL LICENSING
- - OTHER SERVICES THAT ARE NOT SPECIFICALLY LISTED IN THE PROPOSAL. (EX. TRENCHING, EXCAVATION, TRASH DISPOSAL, ETC.)
- - SERVICES INDICATED AS “PREWIRE” DO NOT INCLUDE TERMINATION OF WIRES OR WALL PLATES.
- - TERMINATION OF WIRES AND MOUNTING OF WALL PLATES ARE INCLUDED IN THE “TRIM” OR “FINISH” PHASES OF A PROJECT.
Any equipment to be used in the project that is not supplied by InterFusionMEDIA may require additional programming and calibration time billable at the current rate. Items provided by the customer or third parties are not warrantied by InterFusionMEDIA to be functional or perform at a satisfactory level.
Cabinetry must be adequate to fit specified equipment and drawings must be submitted for InterFusionMEDIA approval. Cabinets must provide adequate ventilation to dissipate the heat of electronic equipment. In some cases, fans may be needed for proper ventilation.
No merchandise may be returned without prior written permission. We reserve the right to inspect material to be returned before issuing return authorization. Returns other than shipping error or defective goods are subject to a 25% handling/restock charge, less the tax on each product. All returns are subject to our approval and discretion. Special order or non-stock items will be subject to the specific manufacturer's return policy. Material cut to length or otherwise modified to customer specifications are not returnable. Also, obsolete, discontinued, or close-out items are not returnable.
We will however, try our best to find the best manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP)
If an opportunity presents itself where the client requests a volume order, InterFusion MEDIA may be able to provide lower MAP pricing. InterFusion MEDIA’s Retail location, online website and online store are subject to the same terms and conditions.
Located on InterFusion MEDIA’s website, is our contact us, contract form. InterFusion MEDIA will look at a wide cross-section of audio visual product(s) to find the best pricing for our clients, however this does not mean that we will aways be able to find the best pricing.
At InterFusion MEDIA, our clients know that our price point may cost more on some items, than what other vendors list their product prices at, but accept that they are paying for a higher quality product, delivery, service, installation, programming and education of said products from InterFusion MEDIA.
At such time that a client may find a better price point than InterFusion MEDIA, we will try to attempt to meet and beat that price point, but only if said item has not been already been ordered by InterFusion MEDIA.
InterFusion MEDIA offers an education program that helps our client(s) understand technology and what will work best with each of their product(s), choice(s) and a realistic MSRP point at a rate of $65 Residential Contracts and $80 Commercial Contracts per/hour. InterFusion MEDIA will only compete with independent authorized dealer(s) located in Winnipeg MB Canada, and not from out-of-province nor country and only with our product(s) lines from our wholesale vendors and manufacturers at a fair (MSRP) point. We do our best to strike a balance between MAP and MSRP for our clients. This means no sales price matching.
InterFusion MEDIA does not compete with other online vendors as we are an independent audio visual store that provides custom installation and systems integration to our clients.
Competitors’ prices must be in Canadian dollars and will be adjusted for any fees, taxes or other charges such as environmental handling fees and shipping.
At InterFusion MEDIA our Price does not apply to advertising errors or misprints, Boxing Day prices, special educational prices, restricted offers, mail order offers, rebates, coupons, premiums, free or bonus offers, OEM products, limited or minimum quantity or limited time offers, close-outs, liquidations, clearances, competitor sales and financing offers. What is (MSRP)?
MSRP, or (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price), is the selling price that a manufacturer recommends for its products. It is also sometimes referred to as the list price, and is most commonly associated in the technology industry. Manufacturer prices are used for marketing by retail businesses and for comparison shopping by consumers.
How Setting Prices works:
Any product can be given an MSRP, although they are especially common for automobiles, electronics, appliances, and other higher price goods.
